The Governor's Internship program application will be available Spring of 2026!
The Governor’s Internship Program connects college students with meaningful summer employment across West Virginia’s government agencies. These nine-to-thirteen week paid internships allow students to gain professional experience relevant to their academic interests under the supervision of industry experts.
Eligibility
An applicant must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- College applicants:
- Must have completed at least one academic year of study at an accredited college, university or technical school by May 2026
- Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater
- Must be a currently enrolled student at a West Virginia college, university or technical school, or be a West Virginia resident attending an accredited college, university or technical school out-of-state
- Graduate students are eligible to apply
- College graduate in May 2026 is eligible to apply
Required Application Materials:
- A completed application submitted online.
- A current copy of your unofficial college transcript
- One letter of recommendation from a person who can evaluate the applicant’s suitability for this program. (NOTE: The transcript and letter of recommendation only need to be submitted if the applicant is selected for an interview. Please do not mail these documents unless requested.)
Selection Process
Host agencies select interns based on current departmental needs and candidate degree areas. Because demand exceeds available positions, agencies review the application database and invite only select candidates for interviews, at which time transcripts and recommendations are required.
Summer Enrichment
Throughout the internship, students will be required to attend professional development sessions and experiences. These sessions will provide a framework to strengthen the future of each student's professional skills.
